Share a solution guidance

Have you a solution searching for a relevant problem or application? As part of its open innovation programme CRACK IT, the NC3Rs has launched a call for solutions in all areas of bioscience research which could provide the next generation of tools while minimising the impact on animals in research.

To submit a solution you will need to register with CRACK IT. When you have registered you will be asked to fill in a short form with the headings detailed below. Only the information marked '*' is mandatory but including the additional information may increase the likelihood of finding a suitable partner and may be requested at a later date by the NC3Rs.

This guidance document contains information about filling in the form and what should be included under each heading. We recommend that you also read the relevant frequently asked questions. It may be helpful to write your submission and save it in a Word document before copying and pasting it into the online form so you do not lose the information.

*Proposed title of solution

Please keep this brief and be creative to try to catch the attention of any potential partners.

*Contact details

Please include your email address and company websites. This information will be passed on to people who express an interest in your solution. The NC3Rs will have approved these people and will ensure no junk expressions of interest are passed on.

*What could your solution be used for?

Describe the applications your solution may be used for. For instance, drug or chemical screening, efficacy testing or disease modelling. Mention the area you are most interested in working in but also the potential of translating the technology or idea to other research areas.

*Need for collaboration

Describe why partnership is required and how your solution would benefit from working in collaboration. It is very important to describe the expertise that you are seeking in a partner and the kind of contributions you may need e.g. access to compounds, data, advice, funding.

*3Rs impact assessment

A description of the potential impact of the work on the 3Rs and how this has been arrived at should be provided.  This should include, where appropriate, an estimation of the reduction in animal use in your laboratory/establishment/discipline and/or objective indicators of how animal welfare has improved.

Executive summary

Please think about the key messages that you would want a potential partner to know about your idea, technology or product. If they only read one paragraph, this will be it. Therefore, it should contain enough information to enable potential partners to identify whether the solution is relevant to their needs and convince them to read further.

Scientific Background

Describe the research area and the science behind the solution you are suggesting to potential partners.

Current state of the art

Describe the current technologies and approaches in your research area. Explain what is unique about your solution compared to these. This may be technical specifications, for example battery life, through to mechanistic information from a new in vitro screen that predicts a specific aspect of toxicity.

Type of company/sector looking to collaborate with

Describe what type of organisation you are looking to partner with, for example, pharmaceutical, chemical, consumer products and the size of the organisation you would prefer to work with.

Information on Intellectual Property

Please describe existing intellectual property, likely future intellectual property and anticipated approach to ownership of intellectual property. If there are no IP issues, please state this.

Key words

Please select relevant key words for your solution that can be used for search purposes.

Images

Please provide an image to accompany your solution

Logo

Please provide an organisation logo.

Additional Information

Please include any relevant references or other information that may be useful.
